Hello, and welcome back – much sooner than expected!
This is a very minor, very quick update, about some housekeeping that’s been bugging me for a while and one that I only issue so people don’t get confused. You may have noticed absence of “Night 0.” in the website’s directory – I assure you, it’s still there, but I finally decided to do the logical thing and just number the nights as they actually happen. In the first chapter, there’s a segment along the lines of “the story I wish to tell takes place over the five nights of the Holiday season in the year yada yada yada;” and funnily enough, it had always tripped me up with having a “Night 0” – so much so that, in a recent conversation, someone referred to “Night 2” which was in reality the THIRD chapter on record, and it has taken me a minute to readjust and realize which one they were talking about it. It’s annoying, it’s small and petty, and it has taken me way too long to admit that 0-1-2-3-4 makes way less sense than 1-2-3-4-etc.
TLDR: nights are now numbered the same way the chapters actually progress. Everyone’s better off, nothing of value lost.
This is, however, in line with larger edits that are going to happen as we near the closing of the novel – and you can be sure, there is more coming, with some announcements closer to the end of the year (spoiler: it’s not a publishing deal – not *yet*), so keep an eye out.
ETA on the next chapter is unchanged – mid-June, and I can tell for a fact that you will get the one after much sooner than you might expect; we just gotta get through the parts that I find harder to write than others first. Who knows – you might even get the full story before the Christmas deadline (but no promises).
Anyways; take care of yourselves in the meantime, go touch some grass, and enjoy the summer (perhaps while reading the rest of my novel, if you haven’t done so already?).
Talk later,
– Daniel
